　  我们来看一个例子。

According to conventional theory, yawning takes place when people arebored or sleepy and serves the function of increasing alertness by reversing, throughdeeper breathing, the drop in blood oxygen levels that are caused by the shallow breathingthat accompanies lack of sleep or boredom.

　　第一步：分析结构

　　并列句：Yawning takes place…and serves ….

　　并列结构前后对称，如名词与名词词组并列，动词与动词并列，从句与从句并列。

　　Serves是动词单数，则并列动词为takes place而非are。

　　第二步，拆分主干

　　“Yawning” 为句子主语

　　takes place + serves ”为谓语

　　“the function of increasing alertness” 为serves后的宾语。

　　第三步：还原修饰

　　“by recersing the drop in blood oxygen levels”修饰”increasing alertness”

　　“through deeper breathing”修饰”reversing”

　　“That are caused by the shallow breathing” 修饰“the drop in blood oxygen levels “

　　“that accompanies lack of sleep or breedom”修饰“shallow breathing”

　　句子翻译为：

　　根据传统理论，当人们无聊或者厌倦时就会打哈欠，打哈欠可以通过逆转血液中氧含量的下降来达到提高警觉性的效果。警觉性可以通过深呼吸逆转血氧含量的下降实现，而血氧含量的下降是通过伴随睡眠缺乏的浅呼吸导致。
