当文章题目以Discuss both sides and give your own opinion，的形式提问时，要求考生在作文中展现折中式讨论。在此类文章中一，三考生需要对题干中提到的问题进行两方面论述和扩充，并对双方之间的关系进行比较和分析。考生最终的观点可以适当倾向某一方，注意在论述过程中结构和观点的一致性。先看下面这道例题：

Discuss both sides and give yo ur own opinion.(2012.05.26)这个题目的重点在于提问方式，Discuss both sides and give your own opinion.包含了两部分内容，分别为discuss both sides和give your own opinion。其中的give yo1l"鲫opinion是要求考生表明态度，而discuss both side翃0要求考生对问题双方进行全面地论证和对比，而不是简单地罗列和称述。
试看如下的提纲有什么问题
l) Introduction governmental spending art or basic facilities; mofe basic facilities
2) Reason basic need for all citizens
3) Reason stablise social order for the authorities
4) Reason ensure the basic civil rights ofhuman beings; govenunental obligation
5) Conclusion more basic facilities are more important
可以看出上述提纲忽略了对art的论述，无论是必要性还是非必要性，都只字未提。显然，这难以支撑整个文章的结构。如果题目要求的两个方面没有得到充分论述，会丢失TR部分的一定分数，最终影响总成绩。
试看如下优化后的提纲：
1) Introduction governmental spending art or basic facilities; more basic facilities
2) Education and health stabilise the social order ensure the basic civil rights
3) Art : spiritual need for people in their leisure time
4) Conclusion more basic facilities are more important; cannot give up art
根据优化后的提纲，文章在第二段论证了基础设施的重要意义，在第三段提到了艺术的重要性，并且可以与之前的内容进行相应的对比，最终得出结论基础设施更为重要，但是基础设施的建设不能以牺牲艺术为代价。
