Some people think parents should read or tell stories to children. Others think parents need not do that as children can read books, watch TV or movies by themselves. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. 20170715

At the beginning of children’s growth, all parents certainly play the role as a story-teller in order to inculcate some common sense in their children or lull them to sleep. Along with these kids growing up, some of parents begin to worry about that they are no longer story-tellers for their children since they begin to read books and watch TV by themselves.

For one thing, there is no gainsaying that children ought to be encouraged to grasp knowledge they are really interested in via reading or watching what they are fond of. To start with, compared with stories that their parents can tell them, what those children can access from books or TV channels is far more informative. There are millions of stories for children to choose, and by contrast their parents sometimes have to tell some stories over and over again since they do not know any other story to tell. On top of this, stories from publications or mass media are with much more authorities as those stories are all edited by professional children’s writers and child-education specialists, unlike stories told by parents that are even from their grandparents and are obviously old-fashioned for children in this day and age.

For another, parents who still like to be story-tellers for their children argue that telling stories to their children can help to tighten their family bond due to the inaction and communication they might have. What they assert sounds as if the story time were the only time they could spend together with their kids. To strengthen their family tie, they may have thousands of methods. Focusing on the way telling stories to children who are already able to read is definitely unnecessary and harebrained.

To sum up, main responsibilities of parents are changing continuously with their children growing up day by day, and consequently they are doomed to lose some roles like story-tellers. Nevertheless, this does not mean their parenting is no longer useful, and this only implies they have to change the way to get along with their kids.
