谈到户外活动，像我这种rookie菜鸟就有点犯怵了，根本不知道说什么活动好。有些同学可能也在纳闷，到底什么是outdoor activity? 不就是户外活动吗？户外活动可以说篮球或者足球吗？如果我真的说了足球或者篮球，算离题吗？
首先要明确outdoor activity的定义和内涵！一般来讲， outdoor activity可以指以下活动: hiking, camping, biking, fishing, birding, rafting, hunting和photography等没有边界范围要求的室外活动。所以，要想拿到好分数，避免回答basketball和soccer!
那么同学们又犯难了：我天天宅家里，这些活动都没接触过怎么办？
解决办法：讲一个比较容易做的户外活动，突出why you enjoy it和how you feel about it，不需要过多描述what you did, how it was。
02｜回答思路
回答第一个点what the activity was。
这里选择了mountain hiking爬山远足。要注意，是hiking，而不是mountain climbing，后者指的是专业运动，需要专业设备等，我们说的爬山更经常指的是登山徒步，没有对专业性要求如此严苛。
Honestly, I’m not really someone into outdoor activities and I rarely do any outdoor activities alone. However, there was this time when I went on a mountain hiking with my bosom friend who really showed tremendous enthusiasm for hiking.

hiking和climbing的区别
Hiking is a long distance walk along a specific trail, most commonly across country. Some hikes can be challenging and last for days including camping, but others can be a long day walk at a steady pace. However, mountain climbing is a challenging sport in which people climb steep rocky slopes to reach the top. Specific equipment is needed in order to mountain climb such as an ice axe and rope depending on the terrain. You physically climb using both your hands and feet onto the rocks or ice and snow to get to the top.

要注意使用过去时态。 And if I’m not mistaken, that would be two years ago, on a Sunday morning. The air was crisp and the sun was shining brightly above us. He called me early in the morning at a short notice and asked if i would like to do some outdoor activities with him. Having nothing else to do on that day, I gladly said yes. But when we met up, he gave me some gears for mountain hiking, which included a lightweight backpack that contained some essentials like snacks, a few bottles of water and a torchlight. Also, he asked me to put on a hat and wore a pair of hiking boots that were sent to me on that day as a gift. As I didn’t have much experience in outdoor activities, you could tell how stunned I was at that moment. Later, I decided to follow his lead and began our hiking trip.

We reached the foot of the mountain and then began our hike up the mountain. At first, I was really in a light mood as I walked on flat and wide paths dotted with flowers on both sides. Seeing all the wild flowers and green bushes along the path, I was mesmerized by the natural beauty. What really stunned me was a brook flowing smoothly downward. Wherever it flowed past, there was the pleasant sound of clear water hitting against the rocks, which sounded pleasant to the ears. However, I seemed to underestimate the difficulty of this hiking. As we climbed further, I felt that my legs and arms were sore and heavy. I almost ran out of breath. So I asked him to stop and rest for a while with me halfway on the mountain. After resting and replenishing ourselves with drinks and snacks, we gained some energy and continued our journey. For a while, everything was agreeable to us. We walked at a steady pace. But, all of a sudden, it began to pour and the paths became slippery and treacherous. Also, the temperature dropped dramatically. We felt the cold acutely on our skin. So I were thrown into a panic. Luckily, thanks to my friend’s advice, we hid in somewhere safe and kept ourselves warm. After the rain stopped, we marched to the destination—the top of mountain. By the time we arrived there, the sun had begun its descent. We were blessed with the spectacular scene of amazing sunset. The clouds glowed in various beautiful colors. We were also in time for the panoramic view of the city bathing in the sunset. It was something that totally blew my mind, something that I think would forever be etched in my memory. So that was the highlight of this hiking journey and also one reason why I enjoyed it. But, aside from this, this whole experience also taught me the importance of endurance and persistence. That was why I became a fervent fan of hiking ever since.
