To be honest with you, I had a lot of experiences of getting things done in a rush, because I used to be a person who liked to put things off until the last minute. I still vividly remember that there was a time when I had to complete my assignment overnight, which was during my freshman year in university. I was taking it easy and slacking off, thinking that I had all the time in the world. But the reality hit me when I realized that I hadn’t even started my assignment the night before the deadline, so I was in panic mode, feeling extremely upset and nervous.

  Language Bits

  in a rush: 赶时间/匆匆忙忙;

  put things off until the last minute: 把事情拖延到最后一刻;

  I used to be a person who ......

  e.g. : I used to be a person who enjoyed chatting a lot.

There was a time when...

e.g.: There was a time when life was easy and men were kind.

e.g. He’s gone from success to success in his movie career, and there’s no sign of him slacking off.

  be in panic mode:

In order to complete my assignment on time, I had to scramble to find all the necessary resources, diving into a sea of textbooks as well as online articles. My coffee maker became my best friend for the night, since I was about to pull an all-nighter. My fingers were typing furiously on the keyboard as if they were in a marathon. It was exactly like a race against time, and every minute felt like an hour. After what felt like an eternity, I finished typing my last sentence for the assignment. Then, I took a deep breath, read through my assignment, which could have been a masterpiece or a disaster at that point, and hit the submit button as if my life depended on it. I remember I was feeling relieved and insecure at the same time.

  Language Bits

  a sea of: 大量的/众多的

e.g. : In English when we say, " pull an all-nighter" , it means that you stay up all night to get something done.

type furiously on the keyboard:

  a race against time:和时间的赛跑

Fortunately, it turned out that I managed to get a decent grade somehow. Looking back, I realize that the reason I had to finish the assignment quickly was due to my own procrastination. So, I learned a valuable lesson: Never put things off until the last minute, as procrastination is a dangerous game. From this experience, I realized that I sucked at time management and decided to make a change. Ever since then, I have learned to manage my time better by breaking down tasks into smaller ones and tackling them step by step, which helps me avoid the stress and anxiety of last-minute deadlines.

  Language Bits

It turned out that .....

e.g. : It turned out that kids actually followed the rules more than adults did.

  get a decent grade:取得不错的成绩

  learn a lesson:得到教训

  procrastination: 拖延症

  break down ... into ...

  the fast approaching deadline:

have no choice but to ...

  as soon as possible: 尽快

As a procrastinator, there was a time when I needed to meet the fast approaching deadline due to my own procrastination. I became overwhelmed and felt stressed out in face of the huge workload under the tight deadline. But I had no choice but to act promptly in order to complete my tasks as soon as possible.
